Hour-long Programme for all 30 matches from July 11 to August 16
ESPN Caribbean will present full highlights of all 30 matches in the region’s premier Twenty20 tournament, the 2014 Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The hour-long highlights programme, as well as the delayed knockout matches for the Semi-Finals and Finals, will air on the two ESPN Caribbean networks along with ESPN Play (www.espnplay.com), ESPN’s multiscreen live and on-demand broadband platform. This is the second year that ESPN Caribbean extends its coverage of the C.P.L. in the region.
“We have been delighted with the response from broadcasters both in the Caribbean and all over the world,” said Pete Russell, COO Caribbean Premier League. “Word has spread fast that the CPL truly is the Biggest Party in Sport and our combination of the best West Indies and International stars performing in a unique Caribbean carnival atmosphere has proved a winning formula. We’re looking forward to working with ESPN Caribbean and our other broadcast partners to deliver a world class production for viewers.”
“We are delighted to extend our partnership with the Caribbean Premier League,” said Scott McGlone, Director of Programming, ESPN International. “Cricket is an integral part of our programming mix on ESPN and ESPN2 in the Caribbean and CPL is one of the most exciting tournaments in the world. If our mission is to serve sports fans in the region, then there is no better fit than this world class event taking place right in their back yard.”
The highlights show will provide in-depth and expert analysis into the match-day as well as relevant background information such as key statistics and the standouts of the competition. Winners of the inaugural 2013 edition, Jamaica Tallawahs, will join last year’s finalist, Guyana Amazon Warriors, as well as The Red Steel, Barbados Tridents, St. Lucia Zouks and Antigua Hawksbills. These six teams will engage each other across the Caribbean in one Group under a round-robin format with the initial round of games bowling off in Grenada on July 11 as the Amazon Warriors open proceedings against the Hawksbills. The top four teams at the end of the group stage in St. Kitts will advance to the knockouts commencing August 13 with the semi-finals.
Among the home-grown talent participating this year, new West Indies Test skipper Denesh Ramdin will join Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle. International standouts also participating include Kevin Pietersen, Mohammad Hafeez, Corey Anderson and Saeed Ajmal, who will all be looking to dazzle the crowds.
