A man dressed as a security guard from a prominent security firm robbed Caribbean Airlines of a large sum of money when he “collected” a money bag from the Caribbean Airlines counter at Piarco International Airport on Monday.
Police said the bag contained close to $100,000 and the man went up to the counter after 11 am pretending to be the security officer who had arrived to collect cash from sales.
CAL officials made a report to the Piarco Police Station at about 1 pm.
CAL head of Corporate Communications Dionne Ligoure confirmed that “an undisclosed sum of money was unlawfully removed from the Piarco International Airport by a man purporting to be a G4S Security Officer.”
Guardian Media has been able to confirm that the sum stolen was closer to $90,000.
Investigations are continuing.
