Fatal vehicle crash South Church Street

Officers of the RCIPS are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday, 18th May 2013 at about 3:11 AM on South Church Street in the vicinity of Sand Cay condominiums.
A Ford Taurus motor car driven by an unaccompanied 21 – year – old male and a Mitsubishi Lancer motor car driven by a 23 – year – old male accompanied by a 20 – year – old female passenger.
Both vehicles were travelling on South Church Street towards South Sound direction apparently at a high rate of speed. The drivers were in the process of negotiating a left bend corner in the vicinity of the Sand Cay condominiums when they both lost control of their vehicles and ran off on the right side of the road.
The Mitsubishi collided with a rock wall by Sand Cay condominiums and a parked unattended Honda CRV, which was parked in Sand Cay front parking lot. The Ford Taurus continued about 200 yards up the road and collided with a concrete column.
The driver of the Ford Taurus was transported to the GT Hospital, and he was pronounced dead at about 5:10 AM.
The driver and passenger of the Mitsubishi were also transported to the GT Hospital; the driver was treated for minor injuries to his right shoulder, and the female passenger was treated for injuries to her knee.
At about 8:20 AM the driver of the Mitsubishi was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Although not officially confirmed we have been reliably informed that the deceased is 21-year-old Zak Quappe son of local musicians Chuck and Barry Quappe.
