Public Appeal for witnesses to jet ski accident

Investigators from the Joint Marine Unit are appealing to the public for witnesses who may have witness the Jet Ski collision, off Seven Mile Beach in the vicinity of the Westin Resort & Spa.

The collision occurred around 1:00pm, Wednesday 15 April 2015 when two jet ski’s collided, causing two riders from one and one rider from the other to be thrown into the water. The 31 year old deceased, Robert Cole and his 37 year old female passenger were visiting the Cayman Islands from Virginia, USA at the time of the incident.

HALIFAX, Va. – A Virginia man died Wednesday from injuries sustained when two Jet Skis collided in the Cayman Islands.

Robert Daniel Cole, 31, of Virgilina, Va., was operating one of the water vehicles, according to the family member of the passenger with him at the time. Emergency Services responded to the scene and transported Cole and female passenger Amy Comer, also from Virginia, to the hospital.

CPR was administered to Cole on scene. He later succumbed to his injuries, according to reports sent to CBS 6 from Cayman 27.

“She heard an awful noise and next thing she knew they were in the water and he was facedown,” said Kathy Comer, Amy’s mother. She said it was a freak accident.

The sole rider of the other Jet Ski was a 15-year-old boy out Jet Skiing with his father and three other brothers, all from New York, at the time of the accident.

The teen suffered a minor injury to the nose which did not require hospitalization, according to Cayman 27.

The accident occurred on Wednesday April 15, around 12:53 p.m. at the Westin Hotel. The families were notified around 7 p.m., Comer said.

Comer has since been treated and released from the hospital. She will head home Thursday night from Miami. Amy thought her leg was broken because she was temporarily paralyzed after the accident, her mother said. It does not seem to be broken, but her mother said that Amy will be checked out when she arrives home.

All involved in the accident were cruise ship passengers. Cole and Comer were passengers on the Carnival Conquest. The teen and his family were passengers on the Carnival Paradise.

Funeral arrangements for Cole will be announced later by Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.

Water Related Incident at the Westin Resort, George Town

The deceased has now been identified as one Robert Cole of Virgilina, Virginia , USA.

On Wednesday 15^th April 2015 around 12:53 am 911 received a report that a male had been involved in a Jet Ski accident at the Westin Hotel.

The accident occurred when two Jet Ski’s collided causing two riders from one Jet Ski to be thrown  into the water, while the sole rider of the other Jet Ski who was a passenger on the Cruise ship Carnival Paradise suffered a minor injury to the nose which did not require hospitalization.

The sole rider who was 15 years old was Jet Skiing with his father and three other brothers at the time of the accident. The family is from New York, USA.

The injured male was transported to the shore where CPR was administered to him. Emergency Services responded shortly and transported both the male rider and a female passenger to the hospital.

The male rider later succumbed to his injuries, but the female passenger has since been treated and released from the hospital. They were Cruise ship passengers on the Carnival Conquest. The deceased was 31 years old and the female passenger was 37 years old. Both were from Virginia, USA.

The surviving parties in the accident are still in Cayman assisting the RCIPS with the Investigation.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Joint Marine Unit of the RCIPS.

Fatal Collision – North Side

A 22 year old female has been arrested on Suspicion of causing death by Dangerous Driving and Suspicion of causing death by Drunk Driving in relation to the fatality.

Just after 1:00am Wednesday 16 April, 2015 a RCIPS mobile patrol came up on a serous motor collision on the Rum Point Road, North Side.

The collision involved a single, silver BMW motorcar which appeared to have been travelling east on Rum Point Road when it left the roadway, and collided with a concrete wall. Officers observed a trapped female passenger, deceased, who has been identified as 23 year old Kimberly Bush of School House Road ,George Town.

A second 23 year old female driver from West Bay suffered injuries received in the collision. She has been admitted to the George Town Hospital.

The collision is under investigation by uniform officers from RCIPS Traffic Management Unit.
