FFR Bill is not complete

The proposed Public Management and Finance Law amendments did not include all of the Framework for Fiscal Responsibility document Premier McKeeva Bush and UK legislators signed last year in the UK.

Cayman Islands Premier, Hon. McKeeva Bush, withdrew the first version of the bill on Tuesday (6) before the Legislative Assembly (LA) members were able to debate it.

Now the Governor’s Office issued a statement on Friday (9) saying the second proposed version of the bill to be presented to the LA this week would have to be changed again.

The statement said: “It has been decided to reformat the bill whereby the Framework for Fiscal Responsibility is appended as a schedule to [the public finance law. The necessary redrafting has taken place and the document was sent [Friday] afternoon to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.”

Members of the LA received the amended copies of the FFR on Friday and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is expected to reply on Tuesday (13).

It is expected the current bill that is being debated in the House will be withdrawn and the new bill will be presented on Wednesday (14).
