George Town police station – public counter now open
Please note that the public counter has reopened for business at George Town police station.
All ten police officers who needed medical treatment following yesterday’s police station fire have now been released from hospital. The teenage prisoner remains in critical care in a stable condition.
George Town police station is still not operational and is closed to the public. Investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
Police staff have been relocated to nearby Elizabethan Square pending further assessments of the police station building by the fire service and planning department.
The fire has not impacted on normal policing services and members of the public can still contact staff either in person or via the phone.
A temporary front desk has been established on the 3rd floor of Elizabethan Square. This is where member of the public should go if they want to report any matters in person.

The ten police officers were being treated in hospital following a fire on Wed (9) at George Town police station. The prisoner who was conveyed to hospital is detained in critical care – his condition is also described a stable.
The fire broke out around 1015 am in the cell area. Initially one police officer and the prisoner were transported to hospital for treatment.
After all other police officers and support staff made their way from the smoke-filled building, .a further nine officers reported feeling unwell and were also taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment.
