Fitness benefits child month
The fruits of fundraising by Anytime Fitness at Camana Bay reached the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Monday, 30 January. The funds are for Child Month slated for May this year.
DCFS Acting Director Debbie Webb-Sibblies and Child Month Coordinator Cassandra Parchment received from Anytime Fitness’ Manager and Zumba Dance Instructor Christine Connor a cheque for $900 raised during a ‘zumbathon’ held last year specifically to benefit the department’s Child Month activities. Zumba is an intense but fun aerobic exercise in the form of dance routines.
“We are truly grateful to Anytime Fitness and their active participants for raising the funds that we received today,” Ms Sibblies commented.
“The funds will come in handy during Child Month which this year has as its theme Educate, Motivate and Advocate for all children,” said Ms Parchment.
Ms Connor added that, encouraged by the fundraiser’s success, the full-service gym plans to offer an active kid’s session during Child Month this year.
She also explained that after a member approached them with the idea for the fund-raiser, it was working with kids’ zumba classes that spurred the gym to organise the zoombathon and do its part for the community, especially children,
A similar event that seeks to elevate participants’ heartbeats and earn funds for Child Month will be held this year.
