John Garabo died March 16 in California. According to a Facebook post from his daughter, Ashley, he had been very sick with diabetes and died peacefully in his sleep. Garabo’s career of more than a quarter century included stints at KZLA Los Angeles; WDSY Pittsburgh; WWYZ Hartford, Conn.; KFRG Riverside, Calif.; and a nine-year stint in mornings at KSKS Fresno, Calif. Most recently, he had been PD and afternoon driver at country ZFKY (Rooster 101.9) in the Cayman Islands. He returned to the U.S. in December 2010 to be closer to his children, and in one of his last Tweets on Jan. 4 of this year wrote, “Happy New Year! Looking forward to my new life in 2012! I’m very excited!” In addition to Ashley, Garabo is survived by his son, Nolan. Both children are teenagers.
