Four year old child drowned
A four year old child has died after drowning in Bodden Town.
Emergency Services were called to what police are describing as a body of water in Minzett Drive.
The alarm was raised just before 2pm on Saturday. After a short search the body was recovered. The youngster was taken to George Town Hospital were death was pronounced. The gender of the child has not yet been released.
Chief Inspector Richard Barrow said: “At about 1:50 pm emergency responders comprising of the Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, Police Uniform Section and Police Marine Section attended a report of a four year old child missing in a body of water located at Minzett Drive North Ward Bodden Town.
“After a short search the child was recovered in the body of water. Residents of the area also assisted in the search.
“Emergency Services personnel transported the unconscious child to the Cayman Islands Hospital where death was pronounced.
“An officer from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has been assigned as a liaison officer for the family during their loss.
“The RCIPS extends condolences to the bereaved family.
“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing and further details will be made available in due course.”
