Cayman Islands Break Pan American Record

The Fraser brothers have made their country proud by claiming gold and silver in the Pan Am 200m freestyle swimming.

Brett Fraser made history by winning Cayman’s first ever gold medal and breaking the Pan American record and his personal best with a time of 1:47:18, crushing the previous record set by set by Brazil’s Gustavo Borges at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar de Plata.

Second place went to Shaune with a time of 1:48:29 and third position was for Paraguay’s Benjamin Hockin with a registered time of 1:48:48.

The brothers are having a superb year. Brett won the 200m Freestyle at the NCAA Championships in March and now he can add the gold medal from the same event in the Pan Am games.

His brother Shaune, who is the National Record holder and the more accomplished of the pair internationally was also under the previous record set by the Brazilian.

Brett took off with a huge opening 50 (24.60) and rode that all the way to a dominant victory.
