Law & policy Freedom United and Lift the Ban partners deliver petition to U.K. government Last week, Freedom United delivered your signatures amongst 180,000 others with the Lift the Ban coalition. Together we called on the U.K. Home Office to give people seeking asylum the right to work. Modern slavery victims are often left with little choice but to seek asylum for their own safety and under current laws, are barred from employment, putting them at serious risk of destitution and re-exploitation. Supply chain E.U. revealed to be using Chinese cameras linked to Uyghur Region atrocities The European Union is under fire after an investigation exposed its use of camera technology from Hikvision, a major supplier of surveillance and facial recognition cameras to the Chinese government’s ‘re-education’ detention system. Outraged parliamentarians, who have been vocal against China’s use of forced labor and detention in the Uyghur region, are demanding the bloc cut its ties with the technology firm. Read more… |

Anti-slavery activists Defamation suit against Andy Hall dropped by Natural Fruit Migrant worker rights activist Andy Hall has come one step closer to freedom from judicial harassment after Natural Fruit withdrew one of the civil defamation cases filed against him. But Hall was careful not to call the development a victory: the case was just one of four, and the final remaining case would see him ordered to pay 10 million baht in damages. |
