Around 10:15PM last night, Thursday, 7 April, officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery at the Smugglers Rum Bar at the corner of Harbor Drive and Fort Street in central George Town. Two men, with their faces covered and armed with what appeared to be handguns, had entered the establishment and demanded valuables from patrons. The men then left the establishment not having taken anything.

The culprits are described as follows: Culprit #1 is stocky and well-built, about 5’10” in height, while Culprit #2 is of the same height of but slim build. Both men had their faces covered, and were wearing long-sleeved shirts and dark pants.

Officers who arrived on the scene just after the incident saw a man speeding away on a dirt bike on Harbor Drive. Officers relayed this information to the police helicopter, which had also responded to the scene and immediately began tracking the rider. The rider, who was speeding, was then followed by both the police helicopter and police vehicles for a lengthy period. During this entire time he failed to respond to police sirens and emergency lights signaling him to stop. In the vicinity of Lantern Point there was a collision between the dirt bike and a police vehicle. The rider of the dirt bike, a man, age 20, of Savannah, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He is being taken off island today for treatment.
