Frankfurt, Germany, 9th October 2024: Genesis Ergo Motion seats have received the coveted seal of approval from Germany’s leading back health institute, Aktion Gesunder Rücken (AGR). The advanced Ergo Motion seating technology is available on a wide range of Genesis models, and is designed to provide optimum spinal support, reduce back pain and offer exceptional comfort.
As one of the wellbeing features designed to bring exceptional luxury and hospitality to each Genesis journey, Ergo Motion has been engineered to soothe a common pain problem recognised as the most common cause of disability in the UK1.
AGR has proven that Genesis Ergo Motion provides ‘optimal support of the spine’, following a rigorous independent testing process by a selected group of industry professionals, from within AGR’s network of 15,000 experts from 40 independent associations.
Genesis Ergo Motion seats are designed to promote the healthy development of spinal posture and reduce overall fatigue and tension, using industry-leading technology to support drivers and front seat passengers throughout their journey.
A Public Health England Report has revealed that one in six adults in England suffer from back pain, an estimated nine million people living with the condition – highlighting the scale and prevalence of the debilitating problem. Even for those suffering from low back pain, 20% will find the condition so debilitating that they will consult their GP1. Sick days due to back pain contribute to £10 billion of indirect costs annually, as well as placing a burden on the health and social care system1.
AGR expert and chairman of the board of the Federal Association of German Back Schools, Ulrich Kuhnt said: “The Genesis Ergo Motion seats fulfilled our strict test criteria very impressively, and in some cases the results even exceeded the requirements. For example, the minimum height of the backrest and the longitudinal adjustment were clearly exceeded. The four-way lumbar support was highly effective, and the adjustability of the headrest was also excellent. Overall, the seats met the back-specific AGR requirement criteria, the seats were also particularly comfortable, and the workmanship was of high quality.”
The benefits of Ergo Motion seats
Designed to maximise comfort on every journey, Ergo Motion seats feature Smart Posture Assist, automatically engaging seven air pockets to adjust and regulate the posture for the driver and front seat passenger. The technology activates one hour into a journey, with configurable massage settings designed to reduce back pain and fatigue, also accessible at the touch of a button located on the side of the seat.
Ergo Motion seats also feature unique technology which automatically adjusts based on the selected Drive mode, offering maximum comfort and postural support via the adjustable bolsters to suit each driving situation.
The development of Ergo Motion
Over a period of two years, Genesis engineers, motivated by changing consumer preferences for a more capacious and comfortable interior, began a comprehensive engineering process to deliver the pinnacle of sedentary well-being and spinal support.
The project began with the first-generation Genesis G80, receiving extensive R&D investment and subject to over 140,000 durability evaluations. The technology is now a key feature of the Genesis wellbeing package, and now available on GV60, GV70, Electrified GV70, Electrified G80 and G90 too.
Ergo Motion is part of a wide range of wellbeing features available on Genesis cars, including noise reduction technology, anti-microbial surfaces and, specific to the flagship G90, a UV-C antibacterial steriliser system in the rear compartment.
Five tips for better back health
To help all motorists ensure their journey is as comfortable as possible, AGR and Genesis Motor Europe have developed five tips for ensuring a correct seating position.
- Ensure seat height, depth, inclinational and distance are all correct for each driver’s body
- Ensure lumbar support is correctly placed
- Take regular breaks at least every two hours to stretch focusing on the shoulders, neck, back, hips and feet
- Utilise massage functions to reduce back pain
- Utilise heated and cooling seats to combat aches & pains
