Get Creative at the National Gallery this Holiday Season!
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) are hosting two fabulously festive art workshops in the Susan A. Olde Art Studio as well as the popular NGCI Christmas Artisan Fair this December.
The holiday workshops, led by experienced NGCI instructors, will cover creative techniques and tricks to produce beautiful one of a kind Christmas ornaments. Workshops include a shatterproof ornament painting class for families and a ceramic glazing class for adults. Course fees include materials, specialized instructors and help to support free admission to the National Gallery for everyone. For anyone feeling creative this holiday season be sure to get in touch with the National Gallery’s Education Department to register.

The annual NGCI Christmas Artisan Fair is scheduled to take place 9 December 2015 in the lower exhibition hall. The fair offers a wonderful and whimsical selection of unique gift ideas from 20 artists featured in the NGCI Gift Shop. The event includes afterhours viewing of the latest photography exhibition Now & Then, live music by Red White and Blues, special discounts for NGCI members as well as mulled wine and minced pies. Admission to the NGCI Christmas Artisan Fair is free and all are welcome.

Christmas Glazing Workshop
With Three Girls and a Kiln
Location: The National Gallery Education Centre
Date: Saturday, 5 December 2015
Time: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Age: Teens and Adults
Fees: CI $80 per student (CI $75 for NGCI Members) materials included
About the workshop: Join Three Girls and a Kiln to learn creative ceramic glazing techniques including watercolour pooling, zentangle patterns, stenciling and silk screening methods. Then take part by choosing one or more of these techniques to create your own ceramic glazed Christmas ornaments. Option one includes two flat round ornaments and one spherical ornament. Option two is one large ceramic tree and one small ceramic tree. Extra items will be available for purchase. Completed pieces will be fired and ready for collection at the National Gallery on 12 December 2015.
Instructors’ background: Three Girls and A Kiln is a local collective of artists including Aimee Randolph, Deborah Richey and Claire Rohleder. The three artists have been working closely together for several years in Grand Cayman but have developed their own individual styles and techniques. The collective creates ceramics, paintings and upcycled/repurposed gifts. Coming from different backgrounds and training in art, they each bring something new and different to the studio.
Christmas Ornament Workshop
With Kara’s Glass Garden

About the workshop: This course offers hands-on fun for the entire family. Each student will receive four shatterproof ornaments to which they can add a touch of their own style. These ornaments are a great gift idea or would be perfect to personalise a family’s Christmas tree. This two-and-a-half hour course is led by Kara Julian of Kara’s Glass Garden. Additional ornaments are available for purchase.
Instructor’s background: Kara Julian has been a professional decorative artist since 1997. Kara began her painting career specializing in hand-painted glassware. Over the years her portfolio grew to include other decorative and yet functional home accessory pieces such as house signs and painted furniture. Lately, Kara has been producing acrylic paintings and murals.
