The Cayman Islands International Storytelling Festival, GIMISTORY, which began in 1998, is acclaimed by many who have attended storytelling festivals in North America, the UK and elsewhere, as being among the best in the world. Audiences fill the picturesque venues – beaches, backyards and parks – to enjoy this annual festival which has become the official start of Cayman’s “winter” season.
This year’s GIMISTORY will feature over a dozen performers from all over the world including Ken Corsbie, Amina Blackwood-Meeks, Mighty Gabby, Edgar Ortiz, Lord Relator and Blacksage – all crowd favorites. Don’t miss these seasoned tellers as they share an impressive repertoire of stories from around the globe, sweet kaiso (calypso) music and of course, lively ‘extempo’, the art of composing songs, on any topic, on the spot. Among the local tellers helping to keep the Caymanian storytelling tradition alive are Dexter Bodden, Matt Brown, Jevaughnie Ebanks, Priscilla Pouchie,Vinnie Rainwater, and for the first time, Martin Keeley and Colin Wilson. Quincy Brown will be making a special appearance at the Cayman Cabana event on December 2nd. On that same night at Dart Park, we will be hosting a special Youth Gimistory, where we will be introducing some of our newer and younger storytellers including Vitoria Buttrum, Dairilys Ebanks, Zariah Anglin, Olivia Zimmer, Dior Seymour, Tahiti Seymour and Layah Ebanks.
Fry Fish & Frittas On Sale!
The aroma of ‘fry fish and frittas’ will fill the air at GIMISTORY as always, and to support our loyal district teams, small and large portions will be on sale each night of the festival this year. You can also purchase other delicious local dishes and heavy cakes at GIMISTORY 2014 – have a home cooked dinner while enjoying a hearty helping of stories from around the globe! Complimentary swanky will be offered throughout the evening to attendees.
