Global accounting, tax and consulting services firm WeiserMazars LLP has bought the Sacramento health care consulting firm pmpm Consulting Group Inc.

The New York-based company announced the deal Wednesday. No financial details were disclosed.

The acquisition significantly expands the WeiserMazars health care practice and positions the local office to become its west coast hub.

Russell Foster, a co-founder of pmpm Consulting, and partner Sheila Stephens join WeiserMazars as principals, along with a team of six professionals. Karen Taranto, the other co-founder, retired a couple of years ago.

“We like the way it is, but see the industry consolidating — and a national presence makes sense,” Foster said. “We’ll be building the business over the next six to 12 months. We’re looking to move to South Natomas and we plan to bring on another six to 10 people.”

WeiserMazars LLP has more than 100 partners and about 650 professionals in eight U.S. offices, Israel and the Cayman Islands.

It is the independent, U.S. member firm of the Mazars Group, an international consulting, audit, tax and advisory services organization with nearly 14,000 professionals in more than 70 countries.

“As the health care sector undergoes a complete structural transformation, we are taking action to deliver effective services to clients,” WeiserMazars CEO Douglas Phillips said in a news release. “Our health care practice is an essential component of the future vision of the firm and we plan to continue expanding it.”

The Sacramento consulting firm was founded in 1993. The “pmpm” in the name stands for Premier Management for Prepaid Medicine, a word play on the payment system at the root of managed care, a set fee “per member per month.”
