Going Electric − a week of features and interviews starting November 23rd
The race to electrify the automotive sector is underway. The UK government has just announced that sales of all petrol and diesel cars will be banned from 2030, so giving the automotive industry a hard deadline to phase out fossil-fuel powered vehicles in the UK.
The big automotive makers – like Ford, GM and VW – are already gearing up for the revolution by investing millions in updating their manufacturing plants. However, there are still stumbling blocks to the full adoption of electric vehicles such as the range of the new electric cars, the speed of charging and the accessibility of chargers.
A Twitter poll for our dedicated mobility channel, Auto Futures, shows that nearly a quarter of those who voted will still buy a petrol-fuelled car next time around. However, over 27% of those who voted will buy a fully-electric car; plug-in hybrid came second with over 26% of the vote.
We’re holding Electric Week on Auto Futures and thenewsmarket.com to celebrate and investigate the transformation to electric powered mobility. On Monday November 23rd, we have an interview with Dr. Andy Palmer, the man who launched the Leaf whilst at Nissan and the former CEO of Aston Martin. He tells us: “Some people have started calling me the grandfather of Electric Vehicles and I’m not sure whether to take it as an insult or a compliment.”
Across the week, we’ll also feature an interview with Ubitricity’s CEO, Lex Hartman and reports from California and Mumbai.
