The week starting Monday, 29 October, GIS Spotlight prepares you for your rights, spreads a wider net for marine parks and re-cautions you about errant cell phone use.

On 6 November 2012, the Bill of Rights that is enshrined in the Cayman Islands Constitution 2009 takes effect. This will provide you with local recourse for redressing breaches to your basic human rights.

Join us to learn as the Deputy Governor explains how Government has been preparing for the advent of the Bill of Rights. Hear how civil servants have been gearing up to meet their new obligations. Discover what your protections are and if you feel aggrieved, what remedies will be available locally.

Our next stop is the marine parks, where we explore the Department of Environment’s ongoing efforts, with its partners, to ensure future generations in the Cayman Islands are able to enjoy a thriving marine environment.

Learn how you can get your voice heard on this issue at public meetings that are now underway. Hear what is planned to increase the parks’ area and also to strengthen protection in certain critical areas.

After that, in view of the RCIPS’s continuing concerns about unlawful cell phone use while driving, we re-broadcast our segment on what you can and cannot do if you want to stay on the right side of the law while you simultaneously talk and drive. The consequences of a breach of this law could be hard on your pocket, or worse.
