Cayman Islands Governor meets Indian High Commissioner

Her Excellency the Governor, Helen Kilpatrick met with His Excellency the High Commissioner of India, Mr. Sevala Naik when he paid a courtesy call on her at the Government Administration Building Monday, 9 January 2017.

The High Commissioner, who was on his first official visit to the Cayman Islands this week, presented his credentials to the Acting Premier, Hon. Moses Kirkconnell, JP on Wednesday, 11 January 2017 also at GAB. Later, he met Minister of Financial Services, Hon. Wayne Panton.

Mr. Naik chatted with the Governor and the Cabinet Ministers about highlights of the Indian economy and to explore possible collaborative ventures in different areas between the Cayman Islands and India.
He also presented gifts from India to the Governor and the Acting Premier.

The High Commissioner also met with members of the local Indian community at the Town Hall in George Town on Sunday (8 January 2017) to advise about rules and regulations affecting Indians living abroad and answered other questions, particularly about possible cultural outreach programmes and educational opportunities for children of non-resident Indians living in the Cayman Islands.

Mr. Naik also stopped at the Harquail Theatre to meet the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Artistic Director Henry Muttoo and Manager Marcia Muttoo to discuss possible cultural exchange programmes.

Additionally, he took a tour of Health City, viewed the waters off central George Town in an Atlantis submarine and visited the Cayman Turtle Farm Island Wildlife Encounter.

The High Commission in Kingston has jurisdiction for Jamaica, Turks and Caicos Islands Bahamas and British Virgin Islands, besides the Cayman Islands.

Accompanying Mr. Naik on his tours within the Cayman Islands were his wife, Mrs. Sunitha and their two daughters as well as the unofficial Honorary Consul for India in the Cayman Islands, Dr. Krishna Mani.
