Governor releases Blandford Dixon serving life sentence

The Governor has today (Fri 21) issued the following statement:

“Under section 31(A)(1)(c) of the Prison Law, I have the power to order the release on licence of a convicted prisoner serving a life sentence. After careful consideration and following a recommendation from the Parole Commissioners’ Board, I have decided to exercise this power and release Mr. Blanford Dixon on licence today (Friday 21 June).

“This is not a decision which I have taken lightly, but after having taking all factors into account, I believe it is the right decision.”

NOTE: Dixon was convicted in January 1986, along with his brother, Lensel Vernie Dixon, and Owen Barrington Bruce, of killing Charles Evans Rankine. Rankine, who had been shot, was found dead on the beach in East End.
