LOS ANGELES, California – Several Green Globe members have made the Top 10 list of Greenest Resorts in the Caribbean Journal for 2013. Green Globe’s Caribbean representative, Wendy Walker Drakes says, “These Green Globe member hotels and resorts are some of the leaders in sustainable tourism, not only in our region, but globally.

Green Globe Certification congratulates six of its elite members all named in the Caribbean Journals, Greenest Hotels 2013. The Caribbean Journal is the region’s leading digital newspaper, covering 20 countries and territories and its Travel Section is the premier source for Caribbean travel news.

“The Green Globe program has been active in the Caribbean for more than a decade and it shows that hotels and resorts that have had a long term commitment to sustainability and our certification program are recognized as leaders. Green Globe members making the Caribbean Journal’s Top 10 list of Greenest Resorts:

Rosalie Bay Resort, Dominica, has its own 225-kilowatt wind turbine and 300 solar panels to generate energy. Rosalie Bay also features organic cuisine, its own sea turtle program and UV-filtered spring water.

Tiamo, South Andros Island, Bahamas, uses sustainable construction methods, locally sourced ingredients and 100 percent of the electricity is derived from solar energy.

Bucuti & Tara Beach Resorts, Aruba, is one of the Caribbean’s pioneering green resorts with sustainability present at every level of the property including recycled linens, reused key cards, solar water tanks, TVs on timers and more. The property also sponsors the Donkey Sanctuary Aruba.

Verandah Resort and Spa, Antigua, has state-of-the-art water and energy management systems and a carbon offset program. The resort also has a keen focus on using local produce to support community engagement.

Spice Island Beach Resort, Grenada, has a long list of green features from non-chlorine swimming pools and solar lights to a composting program and its own Green Team to manage its environmental policies. Spice Island also screens its suppliers to check their environmental practices.

Rockhouse Hotel, Negril, Jamaica, has invested more than $1 million in a foundation to help local libraries and public schools. The resort also has its own environmental management system, with solar hot water systems in every guest room and rainwater collection for grey water use.
