Grenada captures OECS swim title
CASTRIES , St Lucia, Monday November 11, 2013, CMC – Grenada emerged as champion swimmers of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), dethroning rivals and hosts Saint Lucia at the annual (OECS) swim meet which climaxed at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre here Sunday evening.
The Grenadians ended with a combined 1,404.50 team points, followed by Saint Lucia 1,343.50, Antigua and Barbuda 1,248, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 392 and the British Virgin Islands (BVI) 187.
Saint Lucia topped the boys division with 741.50 points, beating Grenada into second place with 669.50 and Antigua and Barbuda were third in that division with 652 points. They were followed by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 278 and the BVI 29.
In the girls division, Grenada were on top with 735 points followed by Saint Lucia with 602.
Antigua and Barbuda were third among the girls with 596 points, ahead of the BVI 158 and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 114.
Top performers in the various categories were in the 8 and under girls Kimberly Ince (grn) 59 points, Meeka Ollivierre (grn) 40 points and Jenna Lee Campbell (slu) 35 points. Topping the 8 and under boys were Ziv Reynolds (slu) 57 points, D’ Andre Blanchard (slu) 51 points and Grenada’s Coby Sylvester with 40 points.
In the 9-10 girls age category Zoe Dennis of Antigua amassed 59 points ahead of Gabriella Gittens (ant/bar) 51 points and Katie Kyle (slu) 44.50 points. In the 9-10 boys the high points went to Lleyton Martin (ant/bar) 68 points, Ethan Dyke-Elliott (slu) 53 points and Jadon Wuilliez (ant/bar) 50 points.
The 11-12 girls went to Elinah Phillip (BVI) 82 points, Samantha Roberts (ant/bar) 75 points and Makaela Holowchak (ant/bar) 66 points. Delron Felix of Grenada topped the boys 11-12 with 95 points ahead of Nikolas Sylvester of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 79 points and Daryl Appleton of Antigua and Barbuda with 62 points.
Mia Benjamin of Grenada topped the girls 13-14 with 73 points ahead of Rachel Wall (ant/bar) 68 points and Amarah Phillip (bvi) 60 points. The boys 13-14 was won by Noah Mascoll-Gomes (ant/bar) with 86 points beating Kerry Ollivierre of Grenada 81 points and Jyasi Daniel of Saint Lucia with 62 poiunts.
Oreoluwa Cherebin of Grenada was the top swimmer in the girls 15-17 category with a meet high 99 points. Jasmin Sen Gupta of Antigua and Barbuda collected 71 points and Laura Browne of Saint Lucia totalled 63. In the boys 15-17, J’Air Smith of Antigua and Barbuda dominated with 88 points. Two Grenadians Corey Ollivierre and Andrew Hopkin amassed 74 and 67 points respectively.
Grenadians dominated the top two spots in the girls 18 and over. Kevlian Andrew beating her compatriot Samantha la Qua 89 points to 85 while Saint Lucia’s Vanessa Eugene was third on 61 points.
Saint Lucia’s Jordan Augier had a meet high in the male category winning the 18 and over with 99 points, trailed by Chris Regis of Grenada 71.50 points and Bradford Worrell, also of Saint Lucia with 65.50 points.
