HBO premieres season six of True Blood
Stephen Moyer directed the first episode of the new season, which will premiere simultaneously with the United States on June 16th
HBO Latin America will premiere the sixth season of the Emmy®-nominated smash-hit drama True Blood in the Caribbean on June 16th, simultaneously with the United States, with episode one under the direction of Stephen Moyer. Sink your fangs into this sexy series that mixes romance, suspense, mystery and humor as it follows the love triangle between waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her vampire suitors Bill Compton (Moyer) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard).
With many doors left open, the thrilling sixth season introduces several jarring storylines that threaten what little sense of normalcy remains in Bon Temps, as “Billith” comes to terms with his newfound powers after emerging from a pool of blood at the end of season five. Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard) declares open season on the vampires, replete with novel anti-vamp weapons and a high-tech internment camp. Meanwhile, Sookie and Jason (Ryan Kwanten) brace themselves for an encounter with the killer of their parents: the mysterious and ancient Warlow, whose identity remains a troubling mystery as the season opens.
Composed of 10 episodes, this season also brings with it new faces to Bon Temps, including new cast members Rob Kazinsky as Ben Flynn, a faerie and new love interest for Sookie; Rutger Hauer as Niall Brigant, a mysterious and sinister figure with ties to Sookie and Jason; Amelia Rose Blaire as Governor Burrell’s daughter Willa; and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as the do-gooder Nicole Wright, among others.
Season 5 Recap
Last season, fans were introduced to the politics of the Vampire Authority and dangers of “vampire fundamentalism,” and in the explosive season finale, Eric arrives just in time to kill Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) and save the faeries. Eric holds Nora (Lucy Griffiths) back from draining Sookie, who has saved his life on more than one occasion. Along with Nora and Tara (Rutina Wesley), he convinces Sookie to assist them in overthrowing the Authority, with Jason tagging along. Meanwhile, Luna (Janina Gavankar) skinwalks as Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) to rescue her daughter Emma and announces the Authority’s crimes to the world while Steve is on air. Sam (Sam Trammell) breaks free and kills Chancellor Rosalyn and escapes with Luna, Emma and the rest of the humans.
Back in Bon Temps, Andy (Chris Bauer) is forced by Maurella (Kristina Anapau) to deliver her quadruplet faerie babies with assistance from Holly (Lauren Bowles), and Maurella leaves the babies behind. Alcide (Joe Manganiello), with help from some vampire blood from his father, kills J.D. (Louis Herthum) and takes over as leader of the pack. At the climax, Sookie, Eric, Nora, Tara and Jason infiltrate the Authority complex and kill all of the guards in a huge bloodbath to free Pam (Kristin Bauer) and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), then the reunited Pam and Tara share an affectionate kiss, much to Sookie’s surprise and Jessica’s amusement. Before Sookie and Eric go after Bill by themselves, Bill tricks Salome (Valentina Cervi) into drinking blood laced with silver and kills her. He then drinks Lilith’s blood in front of Sookie and Eric and faces the “true death,” only to rise a more powerful and evil vampire than before.
True Blood was created by Oscar® and Emmy® Award winner Alan Ball. Season six was overseen by new showrunner Brian Buckner, who was previously a writer and executive producer on the show, and the first episode was directed by Stephen Moyer.
