Heavy rain from the weather system affecting the Cayman Islands since Tuesday, 2 June has resulted in flooding in a number of areas across the country. On Friday evening, further reports of flooded homes and roads in George Town and in West Bay led to the opening at 9.30 pm of the of the Shelter at the Red Cross Building on Huldah Avenue. The Shelter will remain open until further notice to assist persons who need accommodation due to flood waters. Some of the areas affected include Anthony Drive, Washington Boulevard, Smith Road in George Town and parts of West Bay.
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service forecasts calls for weather conditions to remain unsettled through the weekend. Motorists should exercise caution when driving, and avoid flooded roads if possible. Call 911 in emergency situations only.
