History, culture and our future

Miss Lassie GIS SpotlightThe week of Monday, 10 June 2013, GIS Spotlight revisits a coveted national treasure, seeks out natural beauty wonder in the Eastern districts, and glimpses the future of good governance.

History is key to cultural development. Thus by recognizing and preserving significant past contributions to our culture, we can also shape our future.

Join us as historians and artists once again show us how visionary painter Miss Lassie’s house has been painstakingly preserved by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Mind’s Eye project, to display her work to visitors. Hear the late painter in a rare interview explain the creative process behind her prolific and unique talents.

Next we will walk you through the landscape of the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. Located in the district of North Side, the park contains a floral colour garden, Cayman heritage garden, orchid boardwalk exhibit, and blue iguana habitat.

On our last stop this week, we will hear again from a group of public-private sector finance professionals on the role that ethics, values, monitoring, accountability and performance management play in ensuring a robust financial future.

Produced by GIS Marketing and Communications, GIS Spotlight is a programme about government services and solutions that affect you. The weekly show airs Mondays on CIGTV on Cable Channel 20 after 7.00 pm; and on Cayman27 at 8.30 pm on Tuesdays, and 6.00 pm on Saturdays.

All stories seen in the week’s GIS Spotlight can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing [email protected].
