Home Gas emergency simulation
Emergency workers came out in force (Wednesday, 28 March) in response to a planned exercise – a simulated propane-related ‘incident’ at Home Gas Ltd.
Fire and medical services joined the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and Home Gas representatives at the scene, where the accident scenario was an uncontrolled release of gaseous liquids.
Expressing his satisfaction with the results, Chief Fire Officer Dennom Bodden noted, “Although tabletop and actual emergency exercises are conducted periodically, this is the first coordinated response of this magnitude involving the propane plant.”
About a dozen vehicles were on the scene included EMT ambulances, fire tankers and a ladder truck.
Although a portion of Walker’s Road was closed for a short time, no evacuations were carried out during the exercise.
