Honeymooning visitor in Cayman Islands caught with live bullets/Man charged with burglary

On Saturday 14th June, 2014, a 27-year-old male visitor from the State of Wyoming, USA was arrested by HM Customs Officers at the Owen Roberts International Airport in Grand Cayman after his luggage was searched and found to contain 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The visitor claimed he was visiting the Cayman Islands on his honeymoon and had forgotten the ammunition in his bag. Subsequently, he was bailed to appear before the Summary Courts on Tuesday 17th June, 2014.
HM Customs has confirmed that the arrest resulted from ongoing operations, which are designed to contain and control illegal activity at the Owen Roberts International Airport.
Collector of Customs Ms. Samantha Bennett said, “HM Customs remains resolute to controlling and containing criminal activity at our borders. The fact that 50 rounds of ammunition were found in a visitor’s luggage is very concerning and the consequences of such ammunition falling into the wrong hands cannot be overlooked.”

Man charged with burglary

A 27 year old male from Bodden Town appeared in Summary Court Tuesday (17) morning charged with a burglary that occurred in the South Sound area of George Town on 13th June 2014. He has been remanded in custody.
