Police believe ‘pirate’ hid in K-mart change rooms after pulling knife on Pirates of the Caribbean movie set
Police may have narrowly missed capturing a knife-wielding ‘pirate’ who stormed the Pirates of the Caribbean Gold Coast movie set today after CCTV vision emerged showing the fugitive hiding in the K-mart change rooms while authorities hunted for him.
The search continues for the costumed bandit who pulled a flick knife on security staff when he was refused entry on the set around midday.
An image released by police show the man with swashbuckling long dreadlocks, heavy eye makeup and a parrot perched on his shoulder – it is unclear whether it is a prop, or alive – bearing a striking resemblance to Captain Jack Sparrow, the rum-loving pirate played by US actor Johnny Depp in the popular film franchise.
Filming continued, however tighter security was employed. (9NEWS)
Police confirmed earlier they had unleashed the hounds as the search area around the film set on Clubhouse Drive in Helensvale was being combed by officers and sniffer dogs.
Investigators believe he may have hidden in a nearby shopping centre.

The close miss echoes the actions of the man’s wannabe character, who famously boasts: “You will always remember this as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.”
Unlike the latest Gold Coast buccaneer, the hapless Sparrow – played by Johnny Depp – is soon clapped in irons.
“It doesn’t surprise me, when you see the characters we’ve got on the Gold Coast, people will try anything to be a part of the movies,” Queensland Police spokesman Des Lacy said.
The film began production in Queensland last month with key scenes to be filmed on the Gold Coast and at Port Douglas.
