HPC warns of illegal “beauty” injections
The Health Practice Commission (HPC) has recently been made aware that there may have been instances of persons, who are not medically trained or licensed, offering injections for “beauty” purposes.
By law, all health care facilities and all health care practitioners are required to display their current Certificate of Operation of a Health Care Facility or Certificate titled “Health Practitioner Licence to Practice”, respectively.
Furthermore such treatments must take place in a registered health care facility.
This can be confirmed by checking or requesting to see these certificates. If there is no certificate on display, and one cannot be produced, the facility has not complied with the national standards for a health care facility and their credentials have not been checked by Government nor has the practitioner been screened for appropriate and required credentials.
Anyone who has evidence that a facility without a license is offering injectable treatments, should immediately contact the Department of Health Regulatory Services (DHRS) at [email protected] to file a formal complaint.
The HPC would like to further raise awareness of the risk to life posed by so-called pumping parties, where groups of individuals gather to get injections from unqualified and unlicensed persons in unlicensed facilities. Pumping parties are known to occur in India, South America, Japan and the United States. Any such gatherings in the Cayman Islands should be re
In addition, the Commission notes that the public should not assume that such procedures cost less in an illegal setting than in a registered facility. Furthermore it points out that there is often the need for additional expense when complications arise from unlicensed treatments that may, as an example, require corrective surgeries.
The DHRS will continue to keep the public informed as to any risks that it is made aware of.

Pumping Parties: The Dangerous trend for the new “Sexy” in Female Form
By ZADISHE FREEMAN From Freeman’s Mind
The transition from flat to the bodacious, curvy Ass, Hips and Lips as the new sexy has a lot to do with Hip Hop, pop-culture and it’s much maligned videos. When you see women like Pebbelz Da Ass walking around with two basketball size implants in her derriere you come to realize that the female ass has become the prime location for female sexuality and admiration in not just African or Hispanic culture but in White culture as well when thinking about women like Jessica Beal being associated with perfect female form.
Pumping Parties: Similar to a “tupperware” gathering, this type of growing underground movement is an ILLEGAL gathering where mostly transgender individuals inject silicone into their bodies to create curves, breasts, hips, etc. These parties are sometimes attended by non-transgender individuals also looking for a low-cost solution to the desire for cosmetic procedures. These procedures are performed by non-professionals in unsanitary conditions. This term was brought to light by the death of Vera Lawrence in March of 2001. The trial for her murder was coined the “pumping party trial”. (Definition from www.urbandictionary.com)
Pebbelz Da Ass
It wasn’t too long ago that “too much ass” was seen as a bad thing and women around the world and especially North America would try anything they could to loose their rump. Now females don’t mind in some cases being a little bit heavier if it means they have a bit more of a bump on the back side. The flat ass is officially out and although Barbie Dolls still sell by the millions, they are no longer the standard bearer for what beauty is in our society. It is a trip to see flat ass women now a days wearing all kinds of custom jeans and hose to try to lift up what they don’t got back there. Instead of breast implants, women are now walking around with butt injections and even dying from complications as a result of them as pumping parties are becoming the new fad to get sexy.
So now that the stick figure woman is no longer in, women have turned away from liposuction and gone to injecting the same thing they used to want to remove. It really is amazing how a little bit of TV and magazine covers can turn the world on its axis when it comes to the new “Sexy”.
On this topic, there is a new book on the way called CULIO which is dedicated the trend and new age fascination with the female ass. This book looks like it is going to be an interesting read! In reading the reviews about this book, I couldn’t help but vision Sir Mix-A-Lot and his “I like Big Butts” track. Hip Hop has had a lot to do with this transition to the new ideal female form and as a result the author Raphael Mazzucco has recruited some of the genres icons (Diddy, Jimmy Iovine) to edit the book. Check out this interesting blog post below on the increasing trend of these dangerous pumping parties.
Pumping Parties: A Deadly Trend That is Increasing in Popularity. How To Look Fabulous At Your Funeral! (http://www.piercemattie.com/blogs/2006/12/pumping_parties_a_deadly_trend.html)
A few nights ago I was watching a show regarding “Pumping Parties.” I was really quite blown out of the water when hearing about these parties and how they continue to increase in popularity despite the inherent risks. A pumping party is when you are invited to a host’s home and everyone is injected with silicone in the parts of the body they want to see rapid results. They pay hundreds of dollars to the injectee, who has no medical training, versus the sometimes costly price of plastic surgery and Botox. Many see this as an easier and less costly way to obtain pseudo plastic surgery results.
Pumping parties have been around for a while (and are illegal), but as the demand for physical perfection continues to daunt us, the popularity of these parties increases. What many people attending these parties don’t understand is that silicone injected that is not medical grade or done by a board certified plastic surgeon, is just plain deadly. Silicone that is injected improperly travels through the bloodstream and causes blood to coagulate in the lungs, creating circulatory obstructions that can be immediately life-threatening if not identified and treated quickly according to the Radiological Society of North America. The imaging findings of pulmonary silicone embolism include dark, hazy patches in the lung tissue on x-rays or computed tomography (CT) scans.
If you are invited to a pumping party, please know the risks involved. While your results may be immediate and the price tag associated with it may be attractive, any cosmetic procedures should be done soley by a plastic surgeon. While you may be saving yourself some money in the short-term, isn’t your long term overall health priceless?
