Human Rights Book Unveiled
Past, Present, Future, a book commemorating human rights in the Cayman Islands, was launched on Tuesday evening (6 November, 2012), to coincide with the introduction of the local Bill of Rights, Freedoms and Responsibilities, contained in the 2009 Constitution.
Colourful, thought-provoking submissions by local artists illustrate the various basic rights for which Cayman Islands residents can now seek redress in local courts.
The actual art works submitted for this purpose were on display at a reception at the National Gallery to celebrate the launch. Contributors, members of the Human Rights Commission and the Commissions Secretariat, Acting Governor Franz Manderson, JP, and other dignitaries attended the informal event.
The Commissions Secretariat, Government Information Services (GIS) and the National Gallery collaborated to produce the publication, which was made possible by a grant from the Governor’s Office.
Copies of the books will be given to local primary school aged children throughout these Islands. It will not be available for sale.
