Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center are watching a low pressure system in the southwestern Caribbean Sea that could strengthen in the coming days.
The hurricane center’s current projection has the system moving north but staying south of Florida over the next week, though forecast tracks often change over time.
“Environmental conditions could support some slow development of this system during the next several days while it moves generally northward,” the hurricane center said in an advisory at 2 p.m. Friday.
Forecasters give the patch of weather only a 10% chance of strengthening into a tropical system by Sunday afternoon and just a 30% chance of doing so over the next week
Meanwhile, forecasters were urging people in Bermuda to keep an eye on Tropical Storm Tammy, which has been meandering in the Atlantic Ocean for more than a week.
Bermuda was under a gale warning as Tammy moved northwest at about 3 mph Friday packing maximum winds of near 65 mph, according to the hurricane center. A turn toward the north was expected Friday night, followed by a turn to the east over the coming days.
