Hurricane outlook calm for first week of 2015 Atlantic season

No tropical storms or hurricanes are expected to form during the next five days in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea or the north Atlantic Ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center’s Monday (June 1) tropical weather outlook.

June 1 marks the first day of the Atlantic hurricane season, which ends Nov. 30.

Forecasters say there’s a 70 percent chance of a below normal season, and predict there will be six to 11 named storms, three to six hurricanes, and zero to two major hurricanes, Category 3 or greater.

The Atlantic season got off to an early start this year, with Tropical Storm Ana forming in May. The next named storm this season will be Bill.
