US BPO provider Ibex Global has established its Caribbean and Central American headquarters in the Jamaican city of Kingston.

Located at Kingston’s picturesque waterfront district, the office building is also home to Digicel, a major telecom firm in the region.

The company has already employed 600 customer service agents for the site, according to a statement.

The 11-floor building, named Ibex Waterfront, has 40,000 square feet of floor space, a food court, first-aid station, and a gym. Thanks to its solar power panels and geothermal cooling systems, the building is eco-friendly.

Bob Dechant, CEO of Ibex Global, stated that the new center will increase his company’s ability to add 1,200 more employees to its existing base of over 2,000, who are currentlyemployed in Portmore.

Ibex had no nearshore presence until Dechant took the helm in 2015, when, in the space of few months, he expanded operations to Jamaica and Nicaragua.

In an interview with Nearshore Americas in 2016, Dechant called his nearshore strategy a “double-barreled” approach to tapping local talent.

Considering Dechant’s 2016 promise, the BPO provider may eventually take on between 3,500 and 5,000 people in Jamaica alone. In its statement, Ibex emphasized that it is on course to realizing this goal.

No doubt that Ibex’ association with Digicel is one of the key drivers of its expansion in the Caribbean, where the telecom firm is a dominant player.

“We are very excited about our partnership with Digicel as they have been very accommodating and welcoming throughout the entire process,” said Dechant.

“We are happy to welcome Ibex to our headquarters building,” said Vanessa Slowey, Digicel CEO, Caribbean and Central America. “We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding partnership with them.”

  1. Hello, IBEX Global. My kid works for you guys here on Jamaica. I must say these kids are over worked and under paid. Whenever my child works on the late shift until 2am in the morning, these heartless drivers drops him one block away from his gate and he’s got to walk the rest of the way home. Too many kids are dying here on way from work and school and I am very concerned about the danger of allowing my child to walk on these dangerous roads. I am now seeking a job for him.
Kids have been attacked walking down town to the bus stop and this scares me. My child is very special to me and I don’t want any harm to befall him.
Ibex Jamaica is over working our kids and whenever they work overtime, they are short paid. You guys need to intervene.. you ought to care about the safety of these our children. Pay them what they earn and stop using partiality and favouritism. Stop firing our children for nothing.
A young lady had an headache and they wouldn’t send her home even after she fainted so please, isn’t this wrong? Fix this please and let them show respect to our hard working kids.. some of us parents see Ibex Jamaica as a slave driving company who are using our brilliant children and not paying them what the job is worth.
    Thank you.
