Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire that appears to be holding. 254 people, most of whom were Palestinian, died after nearly two weeks of warfare. Reuters sends its thanks to the journalists and photographers on the ground who, in the face of great danger, worked tirelessly to bring audiences stories from both sides of the conflict.

On the other side of the Mediterranean, a different drama began to unfold as thousands of people swam to the shores of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. Among them was a boy who used plastic bottles to stay afloat and captured the international media’s attention with his emotional plea to not be deported. It is likely that the boy is now one of hundreds being processed in a makeshift reception center.
