Cayman anglers donate to Crisis Centre

The Cayman Islands Angling Club, after the First Insurance All Tackle Tournament 2013 was held, donated over $600 to the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre.

The money was collected through an auction of Carey Chen artwork.

The biggest fish in the tournament was caught by Tansy Maki of Hog Heaven, which featured celebrity angler Charles Ebanks and Tobias Marquardt as crew members. The fish was an 86lb. yellowfin tuna.

Leon Dilbert of Dolphin King was second at 76 pounds and Jimmy Nelson of Strikeforce was third at 51.9 pounds.

Nelson is the host of the TV show Gaff Life. He visited Cayman to take part in the tournament.

Tourism department to relocate to GAB

The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (DoT) will be relocating to the new Government Administration Building (GAB) in George Town on Monday 16^th December.

DoT officials said all services offered by the DoT would continue at the new location, including cashier services, which will now join other revenue collections for government on the first floor.

To facilitate final closure of the present location at Regatta Office Park on West Bay Road, the DoT offices will be closed to the public on the 12 and 13 December. Regular services will resume at 1:00pm on the 16 December in the GAB.

The department apologizes for any inconvenience the office closures may cause but looks forward to working with its customers at the new location.

Catron says neighbour’s dog is dangerous

Local activist, Sandra Catron, is concerned about dangerous dogs, neglect of pets and the lack of enforcement by the authorities.

She told local media that she has to contend with a dog on a neighbouring property that has attacked her own dog on three separate occasions. Although the owners have chained the animal, she said that it manages to get lose and each time it goes after her own dog. Despite her calls to 911 and the reports made to the police, no action has been taken about the animal, which she says is genuinely dangerous.

Catron is demanding the authorities take action against this dog and its owner and take all aspects of animal neglect seriously.

And……. Catron arrested for uttering a false document

“The RCIPS can confirm that a 40-year-old woman has been arrested and is currently detained in police custody following a police operation around 7:10 am this morning, Thursday 12 December 2013, in Rackley Boulevard, Newlands. The woman was arrested on suspicion of uttering a false document. As police enquiries are continuing it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this stage.”

Sandra Catron has confirmed on her Facebook page that it is she and it is in connection with the controversial National Building Fund.

“Being arrested again re: Nation Building Fund! Wow!” she said.

The C4C MLA’s will all vote for the conservation law

Even though the Coalition for Cayman (C4C) advocacy group that endorsed their three MLA’s, Tara Rivers, the Education and Employment Minister and government councilors Roy McTaggart and Winston Connolly, all three have said they will be voting ‘Yes” to the proposed news Conservation Law.

This is completely against the official position of the C4C who surprisingly issued a release that made a damning attack on the Conservation Bill that is being debated in the Legislative Assembly.
