CNB and Junior Batabano fuses culture and the arts with T-shirt design competition

The vibrant artwork on the T-shirts that will be worn by marshals, teachers, parents, and other volunteers at the Junior Batabano Street Parade and Family Fun Day this Saturday April 28th, 2018, was designed by 15-year-old St. Ignatius student Samruddhi Tagalpallewar, who won the carnival’s annual T-Shirt design competition to capture the honor, along with a digital Tablet.
Sponsored by Cayman National Bank (CNB) this year, the Junior Batabano T-shirt design competition is an initiative that adds another level of fusion between carnival, culture, and the creative arts in local schools.
“Cayman National is proud to sponsor the T-shirt competition of Junior Batabano as it touches on two of the key pillars of our corporate social responsibility which are youth and the arts,” said Shari Welcome, Manager of Bank Marketing. “As Batabano continues to grow from strength to strength year on year with vibrancy while staying true to our culture, we applaud the drive to keep the celebration of Batabano alive for our future generations.”
The competition is extended to all schools on Grand Cayman each year. The design theme this year was “We are Batabano”, and there were more than 100 entries from six schools.
“The Junior Batabano T-Shirt Competition has been an important creative part of Juniors from its inception, and with Junior Batabano seeing a record participation of some 450 students this year, we are more than grateful and thrilled about CNB’s sponsorship making the production of extra T-shirts possible this year,” said Junior Batabano Co-Ordinator WendyAnn George of the Cayman Carnival Batabano Committee, which organizes Junior Batabano.
The public can see Samruddhi’s T-shirt design at the Junior Batabano Parade and Family Fun Day on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 from 1 pm to 4 pm. The parade starts at 2 pm. For more details visit www.caymancarnival.com.
