RCIPS Community Officers to Host Community Engagement Day at Locations Throughout the Islands, 23 June
On Saturday, 23 June, RCIPS community police officers will be hosting a day of community engagement at different locations throughout the islands.
Community officers from each of the 12 beats on Grand Cayman, along with Cayman Brac, will be present at these locations to interact with members of the public and receive feedback or suggestions on the community policing program.
“This community engagement is part of our continued drive, commitment and development of the community policing strategy,” said Superintendent Robert Graham. “The purpose is to reach out to as many community members as possible so that we can improve engagement and accessibility to the community officers across the island.”
The engagement day will run on Saturday, 23 June, between 11:00AM and 4:00PM at the following locations:

Cayman Islands LA Hosts Regional Youth Parliament Friday (22)
For the first time in the Cayman Islands, a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s Regional Youth Parliament takes place Friday (22 June 2018) at the Legislative Assembly, from 9 am to 12 noon.
Members of the public are invited to attend the event which has 19 debaters from nine countries. Dominica and Jamaica will have one debater each; Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Bermuda and host Cayman Islands – two speakers each; Barbados – three; and St. Kitts and Nevis has four speakers debaters.
The moot is in the form of a Government Motion seeking the “affirmation of the United Kingdom’s decision to exit the European Union”.
Attendees are asked to be seated by 8.50 am for the 9 am start.

Cayman Islands DCI to Close Thursday, 21 June 2018
The Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) in Grand Cayman, including its Business Licensing Counter on the first floor of the Government Administration Building, will be closed from 2pm on Thursday, 21 June 2018 to facilitate staff training.
DCI’s main office will reopen on Friday, 22 June 2018 2018 at 8.30 am, and the counter will reopen at 9 am.

Cayman Islands Two Men Arrested for Boatswain Bay Road Robbery, 19 June
Shortly after 3:00PM on Tuesday, 19 June, police received a report of a robbery which occurred outside a business on Boatswain Bay Road in West Bay. A man had just exited the store when he was approached by two males known to him who threatened him, physically assaulted him, and robbed him of some jewelry and personal items, before fleeing the scene.
During the altercation the victim sustained minor injuries. No weapons were used during the robbery.
Officers immediately searched for the suspects in the West Bay area; both suspects turned themselves in to the West Bay Police Station the same evening. The males, both age 18 of West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They remain in custody as the investigation continues.

Abraaj exits Orascom amid wind-down

The Abraaj Group has reportedly sold its 5.4% stake in engineering and construction contractor Orascom Construction for $8.30 per share, or about $52 million. The move came shortly after Abraaj filed for provisional liquidation in the Cayman Islands after the firm was accused in February of fund mismanagement.

Charges: Man Arrested for Palm Heights Drive Burglary, 13 June
The man, age 45 of George Town, has now been charged with Possession of Criminal Property in relation to the burglary on 11 April on Palm Heights Drive in Snug Harbour. The man appeared in court on Friday, 15 June and has been remanded.
A man, age 45 of George Town, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary in relation to an incident reported on 11 April, where a residence on Palm Heights Drive in Snug Harbour, George Town, was broken into and several personal items taken.
The man had also been charged earlier this month for another burglary in the Snug Harbour area in April, and was on court bail.

Royal Caribbean to pay $1 billion for a two-thirds stake in Silversea Cruises

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. RCL, +2.70% said Thursday it was paying about $1 billion to acquire a 66.7% equity stake in privately held Silversea Cruises. Royal Caribbean plans to fund the deal with debt.
As part of the deal, Silversea Chairman Manfredi Lefebvre D’Ovidio will qualify for a contingent consideration of about 472,000 Royal Caribbean shares, payable on certain performance metrics from 2019 to 2020.
Based on Wednesday’s stock closing price of $107.98, the contingent could be worth $50.97 million.
Separately, Royal Caribbean affirmed its 2018 adjusted EPS guidance range of $8.70 to $8.90, but said increases in market fuel and dollar strength could reduce second-half net EPS by roughly 25 cents a share.
The stock, which was still inactive in premarket trade, had shed 14% over the past three months, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.30% has gained 1%.

Anwar Choudhury, Governor of the Cayman Islands, has been temporarily withdrawn from his post to allow the FCO to investigate a number of complaints against him.
The Deputy Governor, the Hon. Franz Manderson, will be the Acting Governor until the investigation has been completed.

LONDON, England – Last evening, 12 June, I was invited to the House of Lords to meet with Lord Ahmad, Minister of State for the Overseas Territories.
There the minister formally advised me that His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Anwar Choudhury, has been temporarily withdrawn from his post as Governor of the Cayman Islands to allow the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to investigate a number of complaints against him.
He further advised that Mr. Choudhury is currently in the UK and that the investigation is likely to last 4 – 6 weeks.
The minister insisted that no further details could be provided at this stage and indicated that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office did not intend to make a public statement regarding the matter.
During this period the Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson, MBE, JP will act as Governor.

Shortly after 11:00AM on Wednesday, 6 June, RCIPS community officers along with staff from the Department of Agriculture carried out an operation at an address on North Sound Road. During the operation an estimated 40 roosters which are suspected to have been used for cock fighting were recovered at the address. Further searches of the property resulted in a number of spurs, cutting implements and medication being recovered.
A man, age 32 of George Town, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of cruelty to an animal and unlawful gaming, he is currently on police bail as the investigation continues.

Cayman Islands NPO Registration workshops commence
Persons who have yet to register their charitable organisations under The Non-Profit Organisation Law can receive help with their application forms, ahead of the 31 July registration deadline.
General Registry is hosting two-hour registration workshops every Tuesday and Thursday, from 5pm to 7pm at its offices on the ground floor of the Government Administration Building. The workshops, which are on an appointment basis, began on Tuesday, 8 May, and are expected to last until Thursday, 28 June.
The workshops will allow NPOs that have not yet registered to learn about their legal requirements and receive face-to-face assistance with completing their registrations. To book a day and time for the workshop, email [email protected] or [email protected]

KAABOO Cayman Feb. 15-16, 2019
In a news release, festival organizers said $1 of every ticket sold would be set aside to support three local and one international charitable groups. Two-day passes for the festival are expected to start at more than $200 when the lineup of entertainers is announced at 7:30 a.m. on May 15. Officials said they hope to sell 11,000 tickets.
The festival is scheduled for Feb. 15-16, 2019.
KAABOO Cayman will be supporting the National Gallery, Feed Our Future and the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, along with MusicCares, a Recording Academy program that has been a partner in the KAABOO Del Mar festival in California.

CAMANA BAY JUNE EVENTS
This June, Camana Bay has different activities and events for everyone in the family. If you are looking for a new book to add to your collection of reads, sign up for The Bookends Club on June 13 when the group meets to review their latest pick, The Motorcycle Diaries by Che Guevara. Books & Books will also be hosting its monthly interactive dialogue with the experts from Infinite Mindcare. If you haven’t experienced one of these insightful sessions before, stop by on Saturday, June 16 for a discussion on this month’s topic: “Can You Hear Me Now?” Effective & Efficient Communication Skills.
We are also celebrating Father’s Day this month and if you are looking to take Dad for a meal this Father’s Day, consider KARoo’s outdoor BBQ brunch with views of the water on Sunday, June 17. Before brunch gets started, dads can take their toddlers to Cayman Music School for their Daddy & Me Toddler Music Class where they can enjoy playing instruments and have fun making music. If Dad loves to cook, treat him to one of Bon Vivant’s coooking classes, such as French Cuisine with Chef Keith Griffin on June 12 or meat lovers can attend the Carne + Vino with Chef Dylan Benoit where you will learn about cuts and how to find the perfect sauce pairing.
At the end of the month on June 30, Camana Bay Cinema will be hosting an exclusive 3D screening of Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean. Take a dive and experience the beauty and diversity of an underwater world few get to encounter. The movie will be followed by a Q&A with Jean-Michel Cousteau himself. Donations of CI$5 or more are encouraged and will benefit Ocean Futures Society and the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI).
