Cayman Islands: RCIPS FCU Warns of Phishing Email Targeting Customers of a Local Bank, 15 November
The RCIPS Financial Crime Unit has been made aware of a phishing email that has been sent to the online banking customers of a local bank in an attempt to obtain their login information. The email, which has the subject line “Account Debit Notification,” begins by informing customers that account charges have been performed on their account and states that they must click on the link and log on to view the amount that has been debited from their account that day. The email is signed by the “Customer Service Center Team” and the signature is followed by a series of disclaimers.
The FCU is reminding the public to be very suspicious of emails which are asking for login information to be entered and to avoid clicking links within any such emails. Instead, in order to check on your account, it is best to manually enter your bank’s address in your browser and log in directly.
If you receive any emails you suspect to be a phishing attempt or scam, do not click on any links in the email, but contact the RCIPS FCU at [email protected]. The FCU can also be contacted via phone at 949-8797.
