Cayman Islands Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) Closing Early

The Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) would like to notify the public that their office will be closed on Monday, 17 June 2019 at 3 p.m., to facilitate a staff meeting.

DCI will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, 18 June 2019. 

DCI staff apologise for any inconvenience the closure may cause.

Cayman Islands: Road Closures for March for Family

Members of the community will be holding a March for Family on Saturday, 15 June at 6:00PM. The procession will begin on the lawn of the old Glass House and travel west along Elgin Avenue, onto Edward Street and conclude on Fort Street in front of Heroes Square. The procession is expected to conclude at 7:00PM.

Sections of these roads will be closed as the procession passes and re-opened immediately afterwards.  Motorists are asked to exercise caution in these areas on Saturday evening.

At the end of the procession Fort Street will remain closed between Harbour Drive and Edward Street, until about 9:00PM. The section of Fort Street east of the clock tower will remain open.

Cayman Islands National Conservation Council Meeting – 19 June @ 2pm

The National Conservation Council (NCC) will hold a general meeting on Wednesday, 19 June 2019,  starting at 2pm at the Government Administration Building room 2024 (2^nd floor conference room). Elgin Ave traffic Diversion

The National Roads Authority (NRA) along with its subcontractors Island Paving  (IPL) will be carrying out upgrades to the pavement on the west bound lane as part of the larger Elgin Avenue & Crewe Road Extension project. 

The traffic diversion is scheduled for Sunday 9^TH June from 7am to 4pm.

Traffic heading west bound onto Dorcy Dr from the Airport area will be diverted / no right turns will be allowed at the NAPA roundabout.

Drivers are asked to keep watch for traffic diversions and to drive with caution to ensure their safety and that of the work crews.

Road Closures for Queen’s Birthday Celebrations, 8 June

The RCIPS is advising the public of the following road closures happening in order to facilitate the Queen’s Birthday ceremonies on Saturday, 8 June.

Fort Street will be closed between Harbour Drive and Mary Street, and Edward Street will be closed between Fort Street and Dr. Roy’s Drive from 6:00AM and re-open after the ceremonies by about 12:00PM.

Motorists Urged to Exercise Caution During PAWS on Wheels Fundraiser, 9 June

On Sunday, 9 June, PAWS is hosting their annual PAWS on Wheels fundraiser, which begins at 7:00AM.

The participants will cycle from the Lighthouse Restaurant on Bodden Town Road, and travel the East End Loop: east along Sea View Road, north on Austin Conolly Drive, west along the Queens Highway and Old Robin Road, and then south on Frank Sound Road back to the Lighthouse Restaurant.

No roads will be closed, however, motorists traveling in these areas on Sunday morning are advised to exercise caution.

Motorists Advised to Exercise Caution during Wind of Hope 5K, 9 June

Wind of Hope is hosting a 5K Walk/Run on Sunday, 9 June, starting at 6:00AM. The participants will begin at Smith’s Barcadere and travel along South Sound Road, ending on South Sound Road just before The Avenue. The event is expected to finish at 9:30AM.

No roads will be closed for this event, but police are advising motorists to exercise caution if traveling in this area on Sunday morning.

CTMH Doctors Hospital is hosting a walkathon on Sunday, 9 June, starting at 6:00AM. The participants will begin at the hospital and travel east along Smith Road, turn right onto Bobby Thompson Way and then east onto the Linford Pierson Highway, south along Crewe Road, and then return to the hospital via South Sound Road and Smith Road. The event is expected to finish at 8:30AM.

No roads will be closed for this event, but police are advising motorists to exercise caution if traveling in these areas on Sunday morning.

Cayman Islands Department of Children and Family Services: Half-Day Closure

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) advises the public that its Grand Cayman office will close at noon on Friday, 7^th June 2019 for a General Staff Meeting and a wellness activity.

The office will resume normal hours at 8.30 a.m., Tuesday, 11 June, following Monday’s public holiday for the Queen’s Birthday.

Spectrum of the Seas Has Officially Been Named

Spectrum of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship, made its highly anticipated debut in China today Mon June 3). The first Quantum Ultra Class ship sailed into Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Shanghai after completing a 46-night Global Odyssey that spanned 17 cities. In honor of Spectrum arriving to her new home, the cruise line held a grand naming ceremony with Chinese celebrities and Royal Caribbean brand ambassadors, Xiaoming Huang and Angelababy, in attendance. Honored with the lifetime role of Godparents, the popular couple were on hand to name the ship and bestow a blessing of safekeeping over all those who sail on her.

The Public Health Department reminds smokers who wish to quit the habit that there are still some spaces left for the upcoming smoking cessation classes the department is offering. Classes start on 05 June 2019 from 5.15 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. every Wednesday for seven weeks in the Public Health Department.  The Public is being reminded that the new location for the classes will be held at Smith Road Centre on the second floor.

Government Application Process for Early Childhood Assistance Programme Funding Now Open

The Ministry of Education provides financial assistance through the Early Childhood Assistance Programme (ECAP) fund for young Caymanian children who will be between the ages of 3 years old and 4 years old before September 1, 2019.  ECAP applications are now being accepted to assist with payment of fees at any early childhood centre once the family meets certain criteria. This year the Ministry has increased the total ceiling income figures for applicants by five percent which means that families with higher incomes may now qualify for assistance.  Application forms and information can be downloaded from the Ministry of Education’s website: www.education.gov.ky.
