Child dies in St. Lucia after contracting H1N1 virus
By Kheron Sutherland From 99 We FM
A nine year-old girl in St. Lucia has died after contracting the H1N1 virus.
The development has prompted Chief Medical Officer Dr. Merlene Fredericks to urge the public to be vigilant and remain on guard against vector borne diseases as the wet season progresses.
According to Caribbean 360 News, Fredericks said persons will recall that the island had a huge H1N1 swine flu outbreak in 2009, with thousands of children affected, and they actually had to shut down some schools because of the outbreak.
But she noted that in 2009 they had no deaths in children from this disease, so they are now investigating this situation.

FT: Thousands more retail jobs going at BofA
By Stephen Alpher, SA News Editor From Seeking Alpha
Thank the digital banking revolution reducing the need for teller and back-office jobs. According to the FT, another 8K retail jobs are set to go at Bank of America (NYSE:BAC), though the lender will be adding sales staff – loan officers, small business bankers, and personal investment advisors.Even with those additions, headcount is expected to shrink by several thousand amid a steady drop in the number of customers visiting branches. According to the report, the cuts are mostly to come from attrition rather than outright layoffs. The bank has already cut nearly 40K jobs from its consumer division since 2009, bringing headcount down to about 68.4K at the end of Q1. Speaking at a conference this week, Thong Nguyen, head of retail banking, told an audience to expect that number to get to the low 60s.

A Closer Look with the Curator
“This painting titled Home to Parking Lot by Native Sons artist Solomon Solomon expertly blends past and present using cubist influences to illustrate a personal story of loss resulting from urban development. Depicted is the estate Solomon’s family occupied for five decades, and the site currently as a parking lot.” – Kerri-Anne Chisholm, NGCI Assistant Curator
