CONCACAF reveals the official match ball for the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League
The Champions League, featuring 24 top club teams representing twelve countries around the CONCACAF region, will kick off on Tuesday, August 2, with games in Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico, featuring Nike’s latest football innovation, the Nike Ordem 4.
Developed for elite footballers, the Ordem 4 has been refined around three key elements: construction, material and graphics. The geometric 12 panel fuse-welded construction employs a new 3D printed ink technique. Finally, the ball’s graphics follow the design principle of “Flow Motion,” applying a luminescence that ensures excellent visibility while the ball is in play.
The CONCACAF region’s best clubs and players will now compete with the fluorescent orange, pink and yellow ball, joining players around the world from leagues set to also utilize the new Nike match ball, including the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, and Italian Serie A.
The Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League is the annual club championship for the North and Central America and Caribbean region. The 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, disputed from August 2016 – April 2017, will qualify its champion directly to the FIFA Club World Cup 2017.
Club America is the defending champion and will represent the Confederation later this year, in the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2016.
BVI Government publishes Bills to increase hotel tax, set minimum compulsory retirement age
Johann E. Henry and Sheila George From Harneys
The Government of the British Virgin Islands has recently published two Bills (the Bills) which were read in the House of Assembly last month. One seeks to set a compulsory retirement age for workers in the Territory, while the other seeks to increase the current rate of hotel accommodation tax to bring it in line with other premier holiday destinations in the Caribbean.
The Compulsory Retirement Age Act 2016 seeks to set the compulsory retirement age for all workers in the Territory at an age no less than 65 years. This would align the minimum age for compulsory retirement with the age workers in the Territory become entitled to an age benefit under the social security regime.
The Hotel Accommodation (Taxation)(Amendment) Act 2016 seeks to increase the current hotel accommodation tax from seven to ten per cent.
Although not yet in force, publication of the Bills is the first step in the legislative process to bring these amendments into effect. The Bills require two more readings in the House of Assembly, where amendments may be made, and if passed, final versions will be published in the Official Gazette with details of when they come into force.
If you have questions on the two Bills please contact Sheila George, Johann Henry or your usual Harneys contact.
