A.M. Best Downgrades Ratings of Knight Insurance Company Ltd. and Its Affiliates; Places Under Review with Negative Implications
August 04, 2016 12:42 PM Eastern Daylight Time
OLDWICK, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A.M. Best has downgraded the financial strength rating (FSR) to B++ (Good) from A- (Excellent) and the issuer credit ratings (ICR) to “bbb+” from “a-” of Knight Insurance Company Ltd. (Knight Insurance) (Cayman Islands) and its reinsured U.S. insurance company subsidiary, Knight Specialty Insurance Company (Wilmington, DE). Additionally, A.M. Best has placed all ratings under review with negative implications.
Concurrently, A.M. Best has downgraded the ICR to “bbb” from “bbb+” and affirmed the FSR of B++ (Good) of its affiliate, Knightbrook Insurance Company (Wilmington, DE). Both ratings have been placed under review with negative implications.
The rating actions follow the delay by Knight Insurance in submitting 2015 statutory filings to Cayman and U.S. regulatory agencies.
The ratings reflect Knight Insurance’s excellent capitalization and the companies’ ability to access additional capital if needed. The ratings also consider Knight Insurance’s strategic role as a member of the Hankey Group, a group of companies that operates in the retail automotive industry. Partially offsetting these positive rating factors are continued concerns with heightened execution risk due to significant business growth in recent years, coupled with underwriting losses and related uncertainty regarding loss-reserve and premium adequacy from this new business. These concerns are amplified by adverse loss development, and the potential for a continuation of that trend to adversely impact future operating results and risk-adjusted capitalization. In addition, the companies have moderate common stock leverage relative to the composite.
The under review status reflects A.M. Best’s concern with the ability of these companies to execute their business plans in light of the late filing of the financial statements. The ratings will remain under review pending submission of the filings and A.M. Best’s assessment of this material.
This press release relates to rating(s) that have been published on A.M. Best’s website. For all rating information relating to the release and pertinent disclosures, including details of the office responsible for issuing each of the individual ratings referenced in this release, please see A.M. Best’s Recent Rating Activity web page.

The carbon crisis may send millions more into poverty
The impacts from global warming spread out like a spider’s web in ways hard to calculate in advance. However, some facts and figures are becoming increasing clear.
Rising temperatures caused by climate change may send millions more into poverty as the second and third world’s economies are hit with over $2 trillion in lost productivity by 2030.
Hot weather makes it increasingly unbearable to work in some parts of the world, according to U.N. research published Tuesday.
The study showed that in Southeast Asia alone, up to 20 percent of annual work hours may already be lost in jobs with exposure to extreme heat — with the figures set to double by 2050, as the effects of climate change deepen.
Across the globe, 43 countries will see a fall in their gross domestic product (GDP) due to reduced productivity, the majority of them in Asia including Indonesia, Malaysia, China, India and Bangladesh, researcher Tord Kjellstrom said.
“Current climate conditions in tropical and subtropical parts of the world are already so hot during the hot seasons that occupational health effects occur and work capacity for many people is affected,” said Kjellstrom, a director at the New Zealand-based Health and Environment International Trust.
2.1 million people worldwide died between 1980 and 2012 due to nearly 21,000 natural catastrophes such as floods, mudslides, extreme heat, drought, high winds or fires.
The first three months of 2016 have broken temperature records, and 2015 was the planet’s warmest year since records began in the 19th century.

Gulfstream service centers earn maintenance approvals from Aruba, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands
SAVANNAH, Georgia, August 4, 2016 — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced that its company-owned service center in Brunswick, Georgia, recently received approved maintenance organization (AMO) designations from Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.
The company also announced that its service center in Las Vegas recently earned AMO status from Aruba.
These AMOs allow most Gulfstream aircraft registered with the civil aviation authorities of Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and Aruba to undergo maintenance, repairs, alterations and inspections at Gulfstream Brunswick and Las Vegas.
“These approvals for our Brunswick and Las Vegas sites allow us to better serve the significant and growing number of aircraft registered in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Aruba that travel to the U.S.,” said Derek Zimmerman, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “Securing these authorizations gives our operators another option where they can receive the best service and support in the industry.”
Gulfstream’s service centers in Brunswick and Las Vegas are certified U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, European Aviation Safety Agency and Transport Canada Part 145 repair stations, which means their technicians can work on aircraft registered in the U.S., European Union countries and Canada. Las Vegas also has AMO designations from the Cayman Islands and Burundi.
Apple cider vinegar
By Tim Skwiat From BioTrust Nutrition
Numerous peer-reviewed studies have looked at the blood sugar, carbohydrate, and insulin management effects of consuming apple cider vinegar before and/or after a meal.
For example, one study showed a 19% decrease in blood sugar levels when consuming 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar after a high carbohydrate meal.
Another study in which participants consumed 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed resulted in their morning fasting blood sugar levels decreasing by 4%.
But what are the actual results of apple cider (ACV) vinegar on fatloss? Well, there has only been one study conducted looking at ACV and weightloss directly, that being a 175-participant study conducted in Japan. In the study, 175 obese but otherwise healthy individuals consumed either ACV or water daily for 12 weeks. At the end of the study period, the ACV group lost 1 – 2 pounds each while the water group lost no weight. Unfortunately, the AVC group gained the small loss back shortly after the study period.
I don’t know about you, but downing vinegar daily to experience a 1 – 2 pound loss over a 3 month period, only to gain it right back, doesn’t sound like an effective weight management strategy to me! If you’re in agreement, you’ll be happy to know that at the link below we’re going to show you our #1 carb-fighting trick that you can use each and every time you eat carbs (that actually works).
This simple carb-fighting “ritual” is shown through peer-reviewed research to:
*Lower your blood sugar
*Increase insulin sensitivity
*Decrease fat storage
*Increase fat burning
Do THIS before eating carbs (every time)
Even better, there’s no vinegar required, you can perform it in just a few seconds, and again, it actually WORKS!

Cayman Islands Liquor Licence Holders: Remember your 19 August deadline
Liquor licence holders – including those with music and dancing licenses – are reminded of the Friday, 19 August deadline to apply for licence renewals.
They also are reminded that before they can apply for a renewal, their premises must be inspected by relevant Government agencies. Depending on licensees’ particular operations, these inspections may include the Fire Service, Department of Environmental Health, Planning Department, and Port Authority.
To help speed up the process, the Planning Department has advised that licensees must have inspections done by private, licensed plumbers and/or electricians. These inspections are then submitted to the Planning Department for approval.
The Planning Department added that there are a few exceptions. For example, package licences (for retail outlets such as stores and warehouses) do not require electrical or plumbing inspections.
Only complete renewal applications, with either inspection certificates or proof of inspection requests, that are submitted by the 19 August deadline will be heard at the Liquor Licensing Board’s annual session on 30 September.
Applications can be downloaded from the Department of Commerce and Investment’s website, www.dci.gov.ky . For more information, contact the Liquor Licensing Board through Acting Secretary Gavin Dixon on 244-3167 or DCI’s Shelise Jeffery on 244-2202.

Cayman Islands: LCCL applicants must advise TBL board of Caymanian participation
In order to ensure that the law is upheld, procedural changes for the Local Companies (Control) Licence Law (LCCL) will come into effect on 1 September 2016.
The LCCL requires foreign investors to publish ads that solicit Caymanian participation in their potential business endeavours. In these ads, Caymanians are asked to inform the foreign investor of their interest, in writing; however, as of 1 September, Caymanians also must supply a copy of that letter directly to the Trade and Business Licensing Board.
Also, when submitting their applications to the board, foreign investors must include copies of the two local newspaper ads, published in accordance with section 11 (4) (e) of the law, that solicited Caymanian participation.
‘These procedural changes will help the board to know if the applicant has complied fully with the LCCL’, said Minister of Commerce Wayne Panton.
LCCL applications must be submitted in person at the Business Licensing Counter, on the first floor of the Government Administration Building. The counter is open Mondays to Fridays, between 9:00am and 4:00pm. In addition to the two newspaper ads, applications must be accompanied by due diligence such as a police clearance, copies of passports, references, and the relevant fees.
Letters from Caymanians are to be addressed to the Trade and Business Licensing Board, c/o the Department of Commerce and Investment, Government Administration Building, 133 Elgin Avenue Suite 126, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
