Cayman Islands: Port Authority issues temporary anchoring restrictions
In response to a request from the Department of Environment, the Director of Port Authority Cayman Islands has issued an immediate, temporary anchoring restriction for all vessels within 200 yards of the reef damage site located in the West Bay Replenishment Zone. Coordinates of the site are 19° 21.54’N and 081° 23.90W.
The anchoring exclusion is enacted for the purpose of coral reef reconstruction work and a subsequent monitoring period. The public will be advised when the restriction is lifted.
Any vessel wishing to access the site must apply to Port Authority, stating the name of the vessel, the date and time of their proposed visit, and the purpose of the visit.
The DoE will soon issue a statement that provides the public with more information about the restoration work.
5 migrants repatriated from Cayman Islands
On Thursday, 18 February 2016, the Department of Immigration repatriated five Cuban migrants to Havana, Cuba.
The group consisted of four men and one woman, who had been housed at the Immigration Detention Center, as well as the Bodden Town and East End Civic Centres.
One hundred and thirty Cuban migrants remain in Immigration custody on Island.
First case of Zika confirmed in Trinidad and Tobago

A 61-year-old woman was confirmed as the first Zika case in Trinidad and Tobago, the country’s Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
The Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) confirmed the case after testing a blood sample from the woman.
“The patient recently traveled to New Zealand in January 2016. However, as New Zealand is a Zika-free country, the indications are that this is a locally acquired case,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.
Much remains unknown about Zika, including whether the virus actually causes microcephaly, a condition marked by unusually small heads in newborns that can result in developmental problems.
Brazil said it has confirmed more than 500 cases of microcephaly, and considers most of them to be related to Zika infections in the mothers. Brazil is investigating more than 3,900 additional suspected cases of microcephaly.

9 cases of Swine Flu confirmed in Jamaica

JAMAICA OBSERVER – Acting Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health, Dr Winston De La Haye has confirmed that nine cases of the H1N1 influenza virus, more commonly called Swine Flu, is currently being treated at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston.
Speaking to OBSERVER ONLINE on Thursday, Dr De La Haye revealed that the confirmed cases are not from any particular geographic area, and that the cases include referrals from other parishes.
“It is a tertiary referral hospital so you have cases which may be a little more severe than others, normally they would be referred to somewhere like the University Hospital,” he said.
On Monday, H1N1 influenza virus was adjusted to a class one reporting index, which means a report must be made within 24 hours if a patient is suspected to have contracted the virus.
“Until this Monday, all respiratory tract infections including H1N1, were class two, so we were getting a delay in reporting, which was normal based on the class two,” Dr De La Haye explained. “When we were at five reports, I met with my directors at the Ministry of Health and we have implemented a number of measures in order to step up the surveillance, which is what is expected though the figures are below the threshold.”
Caribbean leaders dismiss political interference in CCJ By Jamaica Observer From Caricom Today
PLACENCIA, Belize (CMC) – At least two Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders have dismissed suggestions of political interference in the operations of the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).
The positions of CARICOM chairman, Prime Minister Dean Barrow of Belize and the Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart come as Antigua and Barbuda gets ready to launch on March 10, a public education programme ahead of a referendum on whether or not the island should become the latest regional country to join the CCJ, established in 2011 to replace the London-based Privy Council as the region’s highest court.
Apart from Belize and Barbados, Guyana and Dominica are the only members of the CCJ’s appellate jurisdiction even though many of the 15-member CARICOM grouping are members of the Court’s original jurisdiction.

Cayman Islands: One way traffic flow at ORIA
The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) would like to advise motorists that the lane leading to the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) will soon be one way only. This latest change is part of the new parking revenue system upgrade at the airport. The one way traffic flow will be phased in over the next week. Changes will also be made to the entrance and exit for short term parking and the public is being asked to pay close attention to signage that will be in place.
The Airports Authority would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused and would like to ask for the public’s patience as the CIAA works towards implementing this much needed upgrade in our continuing efforts to improve customer service at the Airport. The one way traffic flow system will be in place by Monday 29 February

NGCI Hosts Afterhours Exhibition Viewing

HMS MERSEY TO VISIT THIS WEEK

Express Processing Available for Business Licensing Applications
Business owners are reminded that they can obtain express processing for their trade and business licensing applications.
To receive licences within five business days, persons can pay $400 for grants and $100 for renewals, in addition to other required application fees. Along with complete applications, all fees are to be submitted to the Business Licensing Counter, located on the first floor in the Government Administration Building, between 9am and 4pm, Mondays to Fridays.
