News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C, Tues. Mar. 15, 2016: Americans are being again warned to use caution when traveling to Haiti.
The updated travel alert was issued by the U.S. State Department on March 11th and expires on June 10, 2016.
According to the State Department, tensions remain high in Haiti and U.S. citizens are urged to exercise caution and remain abreast of the security situation as the electoral process progresses to a resolution.
The latest announced date for the twice-postponed elections is April 24, 2016.
“Particular possible flashpoints would be the period leading up to and immediately following the date of the election, the date results are announced, and the inauguration of a new President – now set for May 14, 2016,” the Department advisory added.

Dominica reports first case of Zika virus

YAHOO NEWS – Dominica is reporting its first case of the Zika virus that has been rapidly spreading across the hemisphere.
Health Minister Kenneth Darroux says it is a locally transmitted case since the sickened person has not recently traveled off the Caribbean island.
Darroux asserted Tuesday that there was “no need for alarm” and advised anyone showing symptoms to seek medical help.
The mosquito-spread Zika causes a mild illness in most people. But researchers are trying to determine whether the virus can cause microcephaly, a condition in which babies are born with abnormally small heads and brain damage. The virus has also been linked to the rare Guillain-Barre paralysis

On January 14 2016 the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued an order under the Commodity Exchange Act delegating to the National Futures Association (NFA) certain reporting and administrative responsibilities, effective March 1 2016.
The NFA will receive, review and maintain notices of swap valuation disputes in excess of $20 million filed by swap dealers and major swap participants pursuant to CFTC Regulation 23.502(c). The NFA will also be responsible for providing summaries and periodic reports related to these notices to the CFTC. The NFA is not authorised to render ‘no-action’ positions, exemptions or interpretations with respect to applicable disclosure, reporting, recordkeeping and registration requirements.

Cayman Islands: NGCI Hosts EN MAS’ Lecture
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands is hosting its “History of Carnival” special lecture on Thursday, 24 March 2016. The lecture is in conjunction with the NGCI’s current exhibition EN MAS’: Carnival and Performance Art of the Caribbean.
Interested persons will learn about the fascinating and complex history of Caribbean Carnival with the Artistic Director of the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, Henry Muttoo.
The 90 minute lecture is free and open to the public, beginning at 6:00pm.

Children’s Film Competition Registration Extended
The Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) has extended its registration deadline for students wishing to enter their short films in the Young Image Makers (YIM) competition.
Budding filmmakers can now submit their entries now through Wednesday, 13th April, 2016.
The Foundation is allowing students more time over the Easter holidays to work on their films.

Minister Marion Hall heads to Grand Cayman
High profile dancehall artiste turned gospel minister, Marion Hall, formerly known as Lady Saw is heading to Cayman.
Hall is scheduled to perform at Concert at the Lion Center in Grand Cayman on June 5.
“I will be there in the name of Jesus,” said Hall on Instagram as she shared a promotional flyer for the event.
Hall is also expected to make her gospel debut overseas from March 25-27.

In an effort to organise activities that embody this year’s Honouring Women’s Month theme, “Step it Up for Gender Equality” the Family Resource Centre (FRC) is encouraging employers from various fields and all levels of employees to participate in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day throughout the month of March.
The main purpose of this event is to educate the youth on various career options and to empower them to pursue careers without the boundaries of traditional gender stereotypes.

Business owners are reminded that they can obtain express processing for their trade and business licensing applications.
To receive licences within five business days, persons can pay $400 for grants and $100 for renewals, in addition to other required application fees. Along with complete applications, all fees are to be submitted to the Business Licensing Counter, located on the first floor in the Government Administration Building, between 9am and 4pm, Mondays to Fridays.

The theme for this event is “FutureVision” and the range of topics spans conservation, new energy sources, the ocean’s potential, improved health, technical literacy, economic and social sustainability, creativity, and how to deal with today’s increasingly complex world. A musical performance will be offered by the UCCI theatre arts students and food will be prepared by UCCI hospitality students.
