Delegation of Leaders to Support Nation’s Development Agenda

New York, NY — Dr. Ron Daniels, President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century announced today that plans are being finalized for a Delegation of African American Leaders to visit Grenada, June 27 — July 2, to fulfill a commitment to support the development plan of the Government of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell.

IBW led a Delegation to Grenada in October for the first celebration of All Heroes Day in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the martyrdom of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. Don Rojas, who served as Press Secretary for PM Maurice Bishop, was Co-Chair of the Delegation along with Dr. Daniels. As an outgrowth of this historic Delegation, IBW devised an Action Agenda which includes: Impacting U.S. Policy Toward Grenada; Promoting Cultural Historical Tourism for Education and Economic Development; Promoting Socially Responsible Economic/Business Development; and Building a Relationship with the Grenada Reparations Commission. (Click Here to Review the Full Action-Agenda).

IBW has assembled a distinguished Delegation of business and professional, political and faith leaders, cultural workers and artists, notable Pan African leaders and journalists to engage in a series of discussions, events and activities specifically related to the Action-Agenda: Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Marcus Mosiah Garvey and a global Pan African icon, Palm Springs, FL; New York State Senator James Sanders, Chairman, Senate Committee on Banks, New York, NY; Dr. Michael Roberts, Black Enterprise Top 100 Entrepreneur and Fraser Net, Representative, St. Louis, MO; Dr. Claire Nelson, Futurist, Founder, Institute for Caribbean Studies, Washington, DC; Kim Poole, Founder, Teaching Artist Institute, Baltimore, MD and Milton Allimadi, Editor/Publisher, Black Star News, New York, NY are among the leaders with the Delegation. (Click Here to Review the Full Delegation).

The itinerary for the Delegation includes: a Business/Economic Development Roundtable; Faith leaders Business/Economic Development Roundtable; Cultural Workers and Artist Dialogue and Performances; and a Special Session on the Crisis in Haiti. Requests are also being forwarded to the appropriate Ministries of Government to participate in these sessions.

A major highlight for the Delegation will be a visit to La Digue, birthplace of Louise Langdon Little, Mother of Malcolm X, hosted by Dr. Terry Merryshow and Terrance Von Wilson, Founder of the Malcolm X Foundation. The goal of this visit is to discuss plans to create some form of memorial monument to uplift and celebrate the legacy of Louise Langdon Little as a woman who was an activist committed to the emancipation of Black people in Grenada and in the USA. An appropriate monument could develop into a destination for cultural-historical tourism for the people of Grenada as well as the Global Black Diaspora

Dr. Daniels is also anticipating meetings with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and Dessima Williams, President of the Senate. Commenting on the rationale for the IBW Delegation to Grenada, Dr. Ron Daniels said: “As a small Pan-Africanist organization that achieves major goals, we are very intentional about building relationships and deploying are limited resources. We are building a relationship with the government of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and civil society leaders and organizations because we believe Grenada is emerging as a progressive Pan Africanist nation on the world stage.”
