International Labour Conference will hold a World of Work Summit to discuss how to shape the future of work for youth on 9 June 2016
GENEVA – This year’s International Labour Conference will hold a World of Work Summit on Thursday, 9 June to discuss how to shape the future of work for youth.
It will inform participants on the Global Youth Initiative , a unique partnership with governments, the UN system, businesses, academic institutions, youth organizations and other groups to scale-up action to create quality employment for youth in the global economy. It also aims at assisting young people in developing the skills needed to compete in today’s job market.
A High-Level Panel on Decent Jobs for Youth will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Palais des Nations in Geneva from 10:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The panel will address the main challenges faced by youth looking for a job as well as solutions to reduce youth unemployment throughout the world.
Moderated by CNBC’s broadcaster Nozipho Mbanjwa, the Panel will include:
José António Vieira da Silva, Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security from Portugal
Linda Kromjong, Secretary-General of the International Organization of Employers (IOE)
Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
Panellists will take comments/questions from three young people.
Interviews are also scheduled with an internally displaced person and job-seeker from Colombia as well as a refugee from Somalia.
Opening remarks will be delivered by ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder.
Address by European Commission President Juncker
At 3 p.m., the Conference will be addressed by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
A designated area will be reserved for ILC and UNOG-accredited journalists on the 6th floor Lausanne gallery for both events.
