International school in Cayman Islands collects record enrollment
The school is currently at its largest number of students, faculty, staff and facilities.
Cayman International School (CIS) started off the 2015-2016 school year with an enrollment of 582 students this week. This is the school’s largest enrollment since its opening in 1994, known then as Faulkner Academy, and also since its official opening as Cayman International School in 2002. “CIS is an elite school, but not an elitist one, and we are excited to be able to accommodate more students every year”, said Jeremy Moore, Director of CIS. The school welcomed a large group of new faculty and staff members to assist with the increase of students.
Expansions have also been made to the school infrastructure to include six new class rooms and two Student Support offices. Four of the classrooms are planned for completion in October. The football field was also upgraded this year and has been FIFA certified with a 2-Star Rating which approves it for professional-level usage. “We wanted to build a football field that would last longer and be of higher quality, so a field that is FIFA certified proved to be the best way to ensure that”, said Nick Natale, a DECCO Ltd Construction Manager in charge of the additions and upgrades to the school. The football field is one of the shared facilities between CIS and Dart Enterprises Ltd’.
A common misconception of CIS is that it is owned and operated by Dart Enterprises Ltd. Though the two have a relationship based on the location of the school at Camana Bay and its shared facilities, CIS is governed by International Schools Services (ISS). ISS is a non-profit organization, based in New Jersey, which aims to provide innovative services and solutions for institutions and corporations throughout the world. CIS is proud to be a part of this organization as they continue to give their students an international, college preparatory education.
With its continued growth as an international school, CIS is recognized for its diversity with the presence of various cultures and nationalities. Presently, more than 30 countries are represented among the student body at the school. The country with the highest number of enrolled students is the Cayman Islands. Other countries with high student enrollment include Canada, Britain, Australia and Ireland. CIS enjoys the mixture of cultures as they all help to create a unique and exciting environment for all who enter the campus. The school looks forward to a wonderful school year.
