IOC

16 May 2024 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has today announced the production of three new sports documentary series for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in collaboration with Netflix. The series, due to begin streaming ahead of the Opening Ceremony on 26 July, will take fans on the journey with the world’s best athletes and teams as they chase their Olympic dreams.

  • SIMONE BILES: RISING follows the most decorated gymnast of all time, as the American icon hopes to return to the world’s biggest sporting stage at Paris 2024. Produced by Religion of Sports in association with the Olympic Channel, the first two episodes of the series will premier in July.
  • Sprint opens the doors to the lives of the fastest people on the planet, including Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles and Shericka Jackson. Season 2 will launch after Paris 2024, and will capture all the drama and action on the road to, and during the one they all want to win, the Olympic Games. Season 2 is produced by Box to Box films and in association with the Olympic Channel.
  • Olympic Men’s Basketball will give all access to the sport’s promising hopefuls and medal contenders from across the world as they first battle to qualify for Paris 2024 before setting their sights on the Olympic podium. Through a generation of legends, the six-episode series will also explore what has led the game to become such a global, competitive phenomenon. Produced by Words & Pictures, the Olympic Channel and Higher Ground Productions.

With these new Olympian-led documentary series for Paris 2024, the IOC is aiming to bring all the awe-inspiring stories of the athletes, as well as the entertainment, emotion and inspiration of the Olympic sporting action, to a wide audience of fans. The collaboration with Netflix continues the ambitions set out in Olympic Agenda 2020+5 to engage more people in more ways with the Olympic Games during and between the event.

“The upcoming Netflix sports series offer a captivating glimpse into the lives of Olympic athletes who are at the heart of the Olympic Games, delivering inspiring stories and perspectives. These series will build excitement ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, which will be broadcast by our Media Rights-Holders across the globe.”

Jérôme Parmentier
VP for Media Rights and Content Partnerships at the IOC

The productions are supported by the International Gymnastics Federation, the International Basketball Federation and World Athletics.

The announcement builds on the success of The Redeem Team – the first collaborative feature documentary between the IOC and Netflix, produced alongside Olympians Dwayne Wade and LeBron James. The film, chronicling the incredible journey of the USA’s basketball team at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, was in Netflix’s global Top 10 in 63 countries for its first four weeks of release and won a Sports Emmy Award in the Long Documentary category.
