Is there an Usman-Adesanya bout in UFC’s future?
Following his recent knockout of Gilbert Burns, there’s really little left for UFC world welterweight champion Kamaru Usman to prove in the 170-pound weight class. With the verdict over Burns, he now shows victories over the current No. 1 (Colby Covington), 2 (Burns), 3 (Leon Edwards), 4 (Jorge Masvidal), 7 (Tyron Woodley) and eighth-ranked (Demian Maia) fighters among the promotion’s top 10 in Usman’s weight division.
Other than rematches, finding intriguing bouts for the 18-1 Usman is going to prove a daunting task for UFC president Dana White. The Nigerian Nightmare has won 17 fights in a row.
Then again, perhaps there is a marquee match that White could make that would have UFC betting sites handling plenty of action on both fighters. Imagine the drawing power of a showdown between Usman and UFC middleweight world champion Israel Adesanya. It could be epic. Sadly, though, it appears unlikely to happen.
