Italian Consul General visits Cayman Islands
GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands – Italian Consul General Gloria Marina Bellelli paid a brief courtesy call to Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin at his office in the Government Administration Building Monday (24) morning.
In September 2015 Ms Bellelli assumed her duties as Consul General at the Consulate General in Miami, with jurisdiction for Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Marten, St. Eustatius, Saba, American Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos, and Bonaire.
She started her diplomatic career in 1998, first at the Directorate General for Economic Affairs and subsequently at the General Directorate for Economic and Financial Multilateral Cooperation, where she was engaged in scientific and technological cooperation, financial politics in international organizations and cooperation in defence.
She was appointed Chief of Commercial Affairs at the Italian Embassy in Algiers (2004/2008) and as Consul at the Embassy of Italy in Israel (2008/2012).
In 2012 she returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome as Director General for Country Development. She helped organize large-scale events such as the ongoing Italy in US program (italyinus.org), a one-stop portal to Italian cultural and commercial activities in the United States. As head of the Office for Cultural Politics she helped promote the image of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the promotion of the “Collezione Farnesina”, an art display of contemporary Italian artists hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.
